Tyson Fury’s first ever opponent in the boxing ring has shared his memories of fighting the newly crowned heavyweight champion of the world.

Duncan Lee, 26, from Haddenham, fought Fury in Cambridgeshire in March 2005 and was stopped in the third round.

However, he still managed to land a few punches and get the self-titled Gypsy King on the ropes.

It was the Englishman’s debut in the ring and just ten years years later he is on top of the world after beating Wladimir Klitschko in Germany on Saturday night, unifying all the association belts.

Lee, who is now a musician, said: “I was not worried going into the fight because I won my previous one.

“I remember growing some stubble in an effort to look a bit meaner but then I found that Tyson had grown a big beard!

“I wasn’t really hurt because of the adrenaline, the fight was stopped because I had a lot of blood.

“At the age of 16, they don’t encourage knockouts so I had no problem with the decision to stop the fight.

“I remember Tyson had a very big reach and that he was a gentleman in that he came and shook my hand at the end.”

Fury recalled his fight with Lee during an interview with BoxNation earlier this year.

He said: “At the time there were only three junior super-heavyweights active in England and Duncan had already beat the other fella.

“When I stopped Duncan in round three, I instantly became the best junior super-heavyweight in the country after just one fight!

“I wasn’t remotely nervous.

“I was a natural who enjoyed every minute of it.”

Lee, who went to Misbourne School in Great Missenden, only fought twice in his career before pursuing a career in the music industry.

He is now a drum teacher at the XYZ Music Academy, a business that he co-founded with his brother Michael and is based at Westcott Venture Park.

Lee is also a drummer in Bucks-based band The Zefrones, who performed at the Christmas light switch-on event in Aylesbury earlier this month.

Another of his brothers Richard, a former pupil at Aylesbury Grammar School, is a former professional footballer and was a goalkeeper with clubs including Watford and Brentford.

Richard put a message on Instagram after Fury’s win saying: “I completely forgot that my brother Duncan fought against Tyson Fury 10 years ago.

“It was Duncan’s only defeat before he had to quit due to a wrist injury.

“Amazing to say that he fought the world champion.

“Well done Dunc!”

Duncan said: “I had never thought about boxing again until fairly recently.

“Some friends have been trying to persuade me and although it’s unlikely I would never say never.

“I’ve always tried to keep myself fit.”

A video of Lee’s fight with Fury from 2005 has received more than 30,000 views since being posted online in the last few days.
