Organiser Penny Ward said: “We cannot believe the response to the dog fancy dress competition despite the pouring rain.

“We had an amazing turnout and with so many entries we even had queues waiting.”

Winner on the day was nine-year-old Imogen Underwood, whose Labrador Nero arrived dressed as a ‘racing car and driver’.

Judge Mike, together with his special canine helper Gucci compared the event, naming cowboy-style dachshunds Ralph and Cocoa runners-up.

Penny added: “Gucci helped with the judging, he was a police dog, there to be on poo patrol to ensure no owners allowed their dogs to foul the parish field. Thankfully all owners behaved very well, no fights or bad tempers!”
