Classical guitarists assembled to perform as a group for the Great Big Guitar Party 2014.

The concert at Ickford School was attended by musicians aged eight-50 from places including Thame, Shabbington, Ickford, Worminghall, Tiddington, Morton and Long Crendon.

The programme included solo performances, duets and a number of ensemble pieces, after just a quick afternoon practice together.

Organiser Paula Child said: “It’s quite a relaxed, spontaneous event. Classical guitar is usually played as a solo instrument, so it’s great to play together.

“The finale, Song of the Lonely Mountains from The Hobbit, was a secret until two days before, so we only had one rehearsal with a singer!”

Senior guitarist of the year award went to Joshua Greig, who is a pupil at Aylesbury Grammar School while Jack Lowndes from Ickford County Combined School won the junior award.

If you are interested in joining a classical guitar ensemble, contact Mrs Child on 01844 201236 or email pchild77@gmail.com
