A pub is serving one of the first full gluten-free menus in the region - and its owner says her mum was the inspiration.

The Black Horse in Cornmarket has gained a GF accreditation and with staff completing Coeliac UK training courses, it can now offer full gluten-free and dairy-free menus.

Pub owner Emma Davis said she thought about offering a more varied menu as her mum is a coeliac.

Ms Davis said: “We would go out to eat and she couldn’t have anything.

“There are implications of course, she would end up in hospital.

“But my niece and nephew are lactose intolerant too so I thought hold on a second, there are lots of people like that.”

Ms Davis said the pub has received good feedback on Twitter and some people are travelling from as far afield as Hertfordshire.

She said: “People are coming from miles so they can have a full menu of starter, main and dessert without worrying.

“But it’s also about getting away from just being a late night drinking venue, we’re more than that.”
