A mother-of-two set up her own make up business because she wants to make her poorly mum and dad proud.

Make up artist Lorna Shepherd, 29, set up Make Up by Lorna just under a year ago so that parents Peter and Gina Matthews could see her realise her dream.

The pair, both in their 70s, are living with terminal cancer but have so far defied doctors’ predictions. Gina was diagnosed with peritoneal cancer – which affects the thin layer of tissue that lines the abdomen – in 2007 but is still fighting, and Peter is being treated for a type of prostate cancer that’s inoperable.

The Matthews fostered Lorna when she was just 11 months old in 1986, and they’ve never looked back.

Lorna, who lives in Thame with husband Darren, 33, and sons Jaydon, eight, and Bailey, four, said: “They were so unselfish when they took me on and brought me up, so this business is my way of showing them that it was worth it.”

Former secretary Lorna was inspired to follow a career in make up after she had hers done professionally for her wedding in 2009. She began studying at Aylesbury College in 2010 and has since built up a varied portfolio.

She often collaborates with photographer friend Kayleigh Victoria – daughter of famous skinhead snapper Gavin Watson. To see the girls’ work, visit www.makeupbylorna.com and www.kayleighvictoriaphotography.com.
