Youngsters queue for the Vale Park open air pool

On a hot day in Aylesbury there was only one place to go 67 years ago.

A long wait is in store for the youngsters pictured here during a scorching hot day in 1947 to get in to The Vale Park open air swimming pool in Aylesbury.

Given the temperatures – and the fact it was one of the only cool spots in town – it had to be worth the wait.

The pool was knocked down and was eventually succeeded by the Aqua Vale, which kept an open air pool as part of its offering. However a roof was built over the open air pool more recently.
