PRINCES Risborough Community Hall will be ringing to the sounds of The Bisham Concert Band next weekend.
It’s been a busy period for the band having completed a successful tour of Hampshire and Dorset, including much praised performances at Reading, Stratford-upon-Avon, and most recently Cookham Regatta, where the band rivalled the colourful yachts for audience attention.
On Saturday, October 22, the Bisham band will entertain the audience in Princes Risborough with their distinctive brand of family friendly music from stage, screen and big band classics.
The evening also promises to be a nostalgic event, particularly for those with wartime memories.
In addition to its usual repertoire, the band will include an evocative arrangement of ‘Songs That Won The War’.
The audience will be invited to Hang Out Their Washing On The Siegfried Line while Kidding Mr Hitler and sing along with Bless ’em All, Run Rabbit, White Cliffs of Dover and the unforgettable Forces’ favourite, Dame Vera Lynn’s We’ll Meet Again.
The band will open the second half of the concert with a rousing rendition of The Dam Busters March by Eric Coates.
Younger audiences will not, however, be overlooked as the evening will also feature Mancini Magic, Phantom Of The Opera, a selection of Sinatra songs, a Beatles composition and well known numbers from Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals.
The Bisham Concert Band will, as usual, be under its distinguished musical director David McLellan.
He is formerly of the Irish Guards where he was a regular broadcaster on the BBC, including Listen To The Band on Radio 2.
David’s informative introduction of the music being performed in concert is always appreciated by the audience.
The concert, which starts at 7.30pm, is in aid of the Baptist Church Building Fund and will be a great family occasion, so make sure the date is in your diary.
Tickets cost £8 and £5 from Jim Griffin on 01844 275569 or from Maggie Cooper on 01844 344580.
