Who will be your sports star 2011? Time to get voting

THE time has come for you, our readers, to decide who will win The Bucks Herald Sports Personality of the Year award for 2011.

The high calibre and quality of the shortlist just goes to show the level of sporting talent in the Aylesbury Vale area and beyond.

The winner, as voted for by you, the public, will get a six-month access-all-areas membership at sponsors Nuffield worth more than £500, a free sports massage, a framed copy of The Bucks Herald from the month he or she won as well as the Sports Personality Shield, which will bear their name, for a year.


JANUARY: ANSAR MAHMOOD - Ansar won our award for January for single-handedly bringing the Tae Kwon Do World Championships to Aylesbury. Code: 1001

FEBRUARY: CRAIG GIBBONS - Swimmer Craig represented Great Britain to beat his German rivals in February while also passing on tips to youngsters. Code: 1002

MARCH: YASMINE WILSON - Fighter Yasmine became the first ever British woman to qualify for the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu finals in Abu Dhabi in March. Code: 1003

APRIL: ANARUDHA COORAY - Anarudha won the April award for setting a Commonwealth qualifying time in being ninth fastest UK London Marathon runner. Code: 1004

MAY: ELLEN WHITE - England and Arsenal footballer Ellen picked up the May prize after winning the league and FA Cup with her club. Code: 1005

JUNE: STEVE CHARLESTON - June star Steve won a 250-mile ultramarathon despite just three hours sleep, constant vomiting and a 15-foot fall into a canal. Code: 1006

JULY: SIMON STANWAY - Tring Park bowler Simon Stanway took seven wickets in a club game before taking six wickets for Bucks against Cambridgeshire. Code: 1007

AUGUST: DALE BLACKWOOD - Adventurer and sailor Dale took part in a team sailing race halfway around the world and received praise for his efforts. Code: 1008

SEPTEMBER: PAMELA RELPH - Paralympic rowing hopeful Pam won a gold medal at the World Rowing Championships after just eight months in the sport. Code: 1009

OCTOBER: STEVEN COOK - Kickboxer Steven defeated rival Sam Ward to earn the right to a European bout for a coveted international belt. Code: 1010

NOVEMBER: PETER TURNBULL - Endurance cyclist Peter won November’s prize after achieving a hat-trick of championship wins and cycling 22,000km in a year. Code: 1011

DECEMBER: KEV CAPEL - Brazilian Jiu Jitsu star Kev won this month’s award after becoming the sport’s first black belt in Buckinghamshire this month. Code: 1012

HOW TO VOTE: All you have to do is text to vote for your favourite and the sports star with the most votes wins. Simply text (be mindful to include spaces as shown in the text here) CBH SPORT (the number of your choice as listed under the pictures above) followed by your name and address to 61500.

The lines opened at 7am this morning (Wednesday December 28) and close just before midnight on Friday January 6 2012.

Text messages cost £1 each but should you vote twice you will get a third vote absolutely FREE.
