Vale of Aylesbury athletes Julia Austin and Heather Fallaize entered the Eastern Veterans Track and Field Championships in Bedfordshire in near perfect running conditions last weekend.

The ladies ran fantastic races, and both came home with two medals for their efforts.

Julia (V45) won both the 800m (2:38:4) and 1,500m (5:19:5) races outright in season’s best times, in fact faster than she has run for almost two years.

Heather competed at the same distances in the V55 category and again achieved two season’s best times (3:08:9 and 6:27:8) which won her silver for the 800m and gold for the 1500m.

A delighted Julia said: “There’s life in the old girls yet!”

It was double celebrations in the Fallaize household. Heather’s son Mark has broken his Senior 800m club record twice in the last week. He travelled to Manchester to run in a BMC Gold Standard race, recording a time of 1:51:84, breaking his own club record.

This weekend he was back at the Watford track for another BMC Meeting where he finished in 1:51:51 – another record.
