Turville Captain’s Day joy for Saggers

After months of planning, Colin Saggers’ Captain’s Day at Weston Turville Golf Club started cold and grey, more like early spring than the middle of summer.

Not that Colin could complain, for once rain was not included in the forecast.

More than 60 members teed off in the morning competition which proved to be a runaway success for two high handicap players, Nigel Woodbridge who won with a magnificent score of 41 points defeating Gordon Milne, who also had the same score.

Captain Saggers also invited the Turville ladies to enjoy the fun and they teed off following the men.

Once again another magnificent score of 42pts by Maggie Tweed secured victory with Janice Carey a distant second on 33pts.

The captain welcomed his members following their 12th hole exploits with bacon and burgers and the odd glass of wine – which may have affected the way some players finished their rounds – but it was welcome respite on a chilly day. A number of other golfing activities were laid on which resulted in more than £180 being raised for the captains charity.

In the afternoon an informal Texas Scramble completed the day and was won in great style by the low handicap combination of Dom Iannone, Colin Flecknell, John Burrows and Brian Gofton who stormed to victory with eight birdies.

The day was then rounded off with an evening of festivities, one that captain Saggers will remember for a long time.
