THAME Mens Firsts came through a tough match against Staines with a hard earned 4-1 away victory.
The visitors started strongly with confident and calm possession in the midfield from Gareth Birkett and Will Sawrey-Cookson ensuring Thame had the ball more often then Staines.
Several chances went begging as Thame continued their habit of failing to take chances but it wasn’t too long before they took the lead.
A misplaced short corner was skillfully redistributed by James Rudolph for Sawrey-Cookson to fire home.
Staines immediately hit back when their deceptively-fast centre forward caught the defence napping to bundle home a scrappy equaliser.
Thame soon reasserted their dominance with the imperious Chris Humphreys seemingly everywhere.
The Thame defence, boosted by a solid performance from left back Tim Trailor, remained firm.
A quality finish from Joe Quilter from a Birkett pass gave Thame the lead at the break.
A second from Sawrey-Cookson and a poacher’s finish from Mark Brookes saw Thame finish with a 4-1 victory and all three points.
