THAME Hockey Club men’s first team played out a scrappy and low quality 5-2 win over Maidenhead at home.

Thame set up with an unusual defensive line with James Rudolph switching to left back and Toby Cross coming into the side at centreback.

The home side were loose with possession in the first 20 minutes and had Laurence Archer to thank as he consistently snuffed out threatening attacks.

Slowly Thame managed to assert themselves and got the break through from a Gareth Birkett short corner.

Clifford Brown scored an accomplished deflection before Maidenhead hit back.

After the break Birkett scored two more to make the score more comfortable before Brown added a second of his own.

Maidenhead’s second was merely a consolation.
