Bearbrook Running Club maintained its strong start to the Apex Sports Chiltern League Division Two Cross Country series, finishing fourth out of 16 teams at the latest round.
Bearbrook fielded teams in the ladies and men’s categories, with the scores of both teams being added together to determine the club’s overall finishing position at the end of the event.
The men did battle over a 5.5-mile course and impressed by finishing third out of 14 teams. Rob Michaelson-Yeates set the pace and was the first team member home in 15th place overall, stopping the clocks on 35m 08s.
Owen Byrne was his closest challenger but he was more than two minutes behind in 29th place. Robert Barrows was next up in 39th place with a time of 38m 13s. Mike Fryer was 44th in 38m 59s, while Mark Westall wasn’t far behind in 48th place with a time of 39m 33s.
The ladies tackled a slightly shorter 3.5-mile course and fought their way to fifth place out of 16 teams in the muddy conditions.
Helen Mulhall was the fastest member of the team, finishing 10th overall in a time of 26m 27s.
