Aylesbury Rugby Club held its annual end of season awards with departing captain Gary Horne taking the coveted players’ player prize.
All members of the club and their partners were invited rather than just the senior players as has been the case in previous years.
And the evening was a great success with more than 130 people attending.
The new club house provided more than enough space to accommodate the guests seated at tables of 10 plus, a stage and ample room for dancing later in the evening.
The three-course meal was followed by a raffle with an impressive list of prizes that included a signed England rugby shirt, holiday accommodation in Turkey, a narrow boat cruise, a Spa day and a month’s membership to Bucks Herald Sports Personality award sponsors Nuffield Gym.
The MC for the evening was outgoing club captain Gary Horne who ensured the evening ran smoothly.
There were presentations from coaches and captains as Matt Birch picked up the club first team player of the season award.
The players’ player prize went to Horne, a nice touch in his final season.
The first team’s most improved player of the season award went to Andy Hackett.
The second string gave their player of the season award to Tom McWilliams with the side’s players voting for Ali McKenzie.
Meanwhile, the third team player of the season was Allan Harper.
Club president Tim Armstrong presented an award to departing skipper Horne for his 20 consecutive years playing for the Magenta and Blacks.
Club chairman Clive Woodfall presented the clubman of the year award to Jim Dodds.
Former club president Major John Rose celebrated his 80th birthday at the dinner and was presented with a birthday cake.
