A NEW-LOOK Chinnor side beat Oxford Brookes University at home 39-6 to progress to the next round of the Oxfordshire Cup.
With many first team regulars rested it was a chance for a number of second team players to show what they could do.
In grey conditions the students were first to score with a well-struck penalty. For the next 20 minutes the visitors looked most threatening and kept Chinnor pinned in their own half.
On the 19th minute the referee awarded a penalty try to Chinnor after continual infringement before 18-year-old Chinnor fly half Will Millet added the extras to give Chinnor a 7-3 lead. Oxford Brookes reduced the deficit with a penalty goal but straight from the restart Millet increased the Chinnor lead to 10-6 with a penalty goal.
Chinnor were awarded their second penalty try as the students’ scrum continually collapsed.
On the 53rd minute, the visitors lost the ball and Chinnor’s Gray motored under the posts for Chinnor’s third. 10 minutes later, Millet sliced through the blind side to slip in Guy Hackshaw for a try and a score of 29-6. Ludgate chipped for Gray who glided to the posts for Chinnor’s fifth.
The 70th minute saw the highlight of the match when Hopwood flicked inside to Gray who slipped the ball to Powell who delayed his backward overhead pass to Ludgate who scored the final points.
