THAME put in an excellent performance to beat a tough Maidenhead Town side on Saturday.
They led throughout and already had an eight-shot advantage at half-time.
This was then increased, despite Maidenhead winning three rinks.
Top rink honours for Thame went to Chris Billingham, Bill Giles, George Andrews and Les Westcott who won by 27 shots to nine.
Thame ladies couldn’t repeat the men’s scores and went down 80-42 to a strong South Oxfordshire side.
Oxfordshire took an 11 shot lead after nine ends and they progressed steadily to take the match with 80 shots to Thame’s 42, winning on all four rinks.
The ladies team then competed for the prestigious Hubbard Cup.
Played in Triples format with four ends, played on each of five different rinks. The quickly adapting triple of Val Gresty, Ann Jones and Skip Caroline Walker finished an exciting game, winning by only 3 shots from the trio of Sharon Gardiner (novice) at lead, Barbara Hurley and the on form Hazell Westcott.
Then on Sunday, Ladies and Gentlemen bowlers from Watlington Bowls Club, were welcomed to Thame for the first of two annual fixtures.
Played over five rinks, it was the visitors who held a 6 shot lead at the half way mark.
As play continued and despite a late challenge from thehome team, Watlington managed to win the match with 110 shots to Thame’s 89.
Top Rink honours for Thame were Jill Brooks,Trevor Copley, Caroline Walker and Skipper Mel Dale winning with 25 shots to 14.
