The highlight of the junior golfing calendar, The Junior Club Championships at Ellesborough, is always a day of mixed emotions as high expectation and nervous tension collide.

The competitors arrived early to warm up for 36 holes of gruelling fierce competition.

After the opening round, the lead at the halfway stage was held by Bronson Sims on count back from Alice Kozlowski, both scoring excellent nett 69’s.

With six players all within sight of the leading position, the afternoon session started with high expectations. With a scorching nett 68, Robin Plant set the pace and achieved the lowest nett score of the day.

However, Robin had to settle for second place in the Scratch Competition which was won by Kozlowski.

On a day of fluctuating fortunes, one player was a model of consistency. With two rounds of nett 69, Sims was this year’s winner of the Nett Competition by four shots from Lucy Matthews.

A club spokesman said: “Congrats to all the junior players who played, but especially to Alice and Bronson.”
