Mark Squire, the head professional at Ellesborough Golf Club near Wendover, has qualified for the PGA European Seniors Tour Championships.

The qualification on age for the tour is 50 years old and Mark passed that milestone only a couple of weeks ago.

More importantly he had to qualify in the top 20 from a large field of 144 competing in the PGA Seniors Championship at Northamptonshire County Golf Club over three rounds of golf earlier this month. This he did successfully with scores of 74, 73 and 73.

“It is probably the most consistent consecutive three rounds I have ever played and I struck the ball really well all week,” Mark said.

The seasoned pro, who has been at Ellesborough for 17 years, will now play in the PGA European Seniors Tour Championships event at Mottram Hall in Cheshire from June 6-9.

Mark added: “It will be great and a real experience to be teeing off with the likes of Ian Woosnam, Sam Torrence, Eamonn Darcy and Des Smyth.” A top 10 finish in this event will automatically result in further tour event invitations.
