Snowboarding phenomenon Becky Menday belied her age yet again to win a gold medal at the inaugural England Slope Style Championships in Manchester at the weekend.
The 14-year-old Waddesdon starlet not only won gold in the Under 16 age group but also secured second place in the event overall.
In light of the recent inclusion of freestyle snowboarding in the 2014 Winter Olympics to be held in Sorchi in Russia, Menday continued and remarkable success story puts her right in the mix for future Olympic glory.
Athlete’s in both snowboarding and skiing of all ages descended on the Chill Factore slope in Manchester for the competition.
Only the top six women and top 10 men were selected to compete for the overall final standings and with a strong field of female competitors the event was shaping up to be an exciting one for Menday to test herself against the best. After winning gold, she was not quite able to see off the experience of 24 year old Isabelle Jones who took the overall win. However, she was still delighted with her performance.
Becky said: “I am so pleased to have ridden well enough to win the under 16 gold medal, and even more to finish second overall.”
Becky will next be in action at the ‘Big Air English Championship’ later in the year.
