The year 2013 isn’t one Vale of Aylesbury’s Christian von Eitzen will forget in a hurry … for all the right reasons.
He finishes the track season as U17 county 800m and 1,500m champion for Oxfordshire with new championship record times in both distances, national 800m champion at the English Schools Athletics Championships and he collected a gold medal for the 800m representing England in July as well as a silver in the 1,500m at the same event.
The icing on the cake came this weekend at the UK School Games held at The Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield.
Oxfordshire were running in the Midlands regional team and Christian was selected as captain.
On Saturday he won the 800m gold medal quite comfortably in 1:54:33 after kicking hard with 300m to go.
Then on Sunday, he was selected to run the first leg of the 4x400m relay; he was easily recognisable as the only runner without starting blocks as he was running against experienced 400m athletes.
Christian put in a great performance with a 49.8s time for his leg and the team finished second giving him a silver medal to add to his collection. Back at school this week, Christian declared he was on cloud nine!
