THAME Firsts took out their frustration at last week’s surprise loss to Banbury by beating Phoenix 8-1.

Playing at home for the first time in three weeks Thame started strongly and good wide play by Sam Hall saw Mark Brookes score his first of three.

The ghosts of the Banbury game then seemed to rear their heads as Thame were unable to put the game to bed, missing countless chances.

Thame’s single goal advantage barely lasted minutes into the second half when a miss-controlled stop gave the Phoenix forward an opportunity he could not miss.

Shell-shocked Thame reacted positively and came out all guns blazing, scoring five goals in a surreal eight minutes.

A hat-trick for man of the match Clifford Brown and Mark Brookes’ second and third. Will Sawrey-Cookson then pitched in with a beauty from a tight angle.

The final goal came from a Gareth Birkett short corner which Chris Humphreys claimed to get a touch on. The decision has gone to the league umpires for clarification.
