Aylesbury Tennis Club’s veteran duo Mike Francis and Norman Church lifted the Mens Doubles Over 70 crown at the National Indoor Seniors Championships last week.
Mike and Norman have won many national titles over the last 15 years but qualified for the over 70 event this time out at Dudley and won it at the first attempt.
They pair of aces have been leading the Aylesbury and county teams for many years and hope to continue for a while yet.
Elsewhere, it was a busy weekend for the club’s teams. In the Aylesbury and District League, ladies 2 took on Chesham Bois 1 losing
5-3 with Stella Wallington/Ann Cottrell and Sue Miles/Sally Start playing.
Mens 3 of Paul Little/Jeff Russell and Paul Pelling/Dillan Mistry beat Horsenden 3 8-0. In the Bucks Winter Shield, ladies 1 beat Hazelmere 7-1 with Sue Dunn/Jacqui Wingfield and Bridget Vellacott/Venetia Cosier representing Aylesbury.
In the mens competition, the firsts were beaten by David Lloyd MK 6-2, Ken Holroyd/Dean Palmer and Norman Church/Phill Archer played. Finally on Sunday, the ladies third ADL team whitewashed their opponents in an 8-0 win against High Wycombe 3 – playing for Aylesbury were Pat Evans/Jo Bee and Wendy Russell/Ann Cottrell.
