Chinnor’s prestigious pre-season match against Championship side London Welsh ended in a 107-5 defeat at Kingsey Road.

Things were always going to be tough for the black-and-whites against Welsh particularly after Craig Chalmers left the club in acrimonious circumstances (he has since joined Esher RFC) having not even led them out for a game.

Andrew Smith and Matt Goode have stepped into the breach as joint head team coaches.

But Welsh showed all their experience as they ran in 17 tries in a game which was split into three 30-minute periods.

It did not stop the Chinnor crowd enjoying the day, though, with the club not charging for tickets.

A bumper crowd got their highlight of the day when Will Millett touched down in the third period for a moment he will never forget.

Fans were also pleased with the third period score of 19-5 offering some indication that the black-and-whites could hold their own at times against superior opposition.

Chinnor continue their pre-season preparations in a clash more at their level when they host Tunbridge Juddians on Saturday (kick-off 2.30pm).

The club then begin their second league campaign in SSE National League 2 South after a successful debut with a trip to Exmouth on August 7 (kick-off 2,30pm).
