Dave Larham says his side will be ‘underdogs’ when they face league leaders Bletchley today (Saturday) despite making it back-to-back wins against Wallingford last weekend.
The Ducks have been enjoying a run of home games at the start of their league season and this was to be their third in a row.
From the start Ay’s were the stronger side dominating both territory and possession and gradually ground down a resolute Wallingford defence to secure a bonus point win.
Larham praised Mike Evans for his man of the match performance and said the win was perfect preparation for the big game against Bletchley. But the head coach is airing on the side of caution.
“Gareth (Collings, assistant coach) and I were very pleased with the performance. Our pre-match team talk focused on our execution and out-working the opposition.
“We dominated the game and demonstrated improvements in our game management. Mike Evans ran the game at 10 with a man of the match display that launched an exciting back line.
“A four-try bonus point win was a fair result and gave us an indication of the potential of this squad.
“Next we face the massive challenge of playing league leaders Bletchley and have to be realistic that we start as underdogs.
“We will have to raise our game and make sure that we make them work at every phase of the game.
“Training and selection will have to be spot-on if we are to upset the odds and maintain our good form,” he added.
Aylesbury go into Saturday’s match in third place in the Southern Counties North League.
