Hale Leys will be top of the South Midlands League at Christmas after a cracker of a win over MK side Wolverton.
Veteran forward Roni Joe got the scoring under way with a long distance free-kick and left back Marcus Hussey doubled the lead in the 34th minute to make things comfortable at the break. A number of dangerous tackles from Wolverton went unpunished and eventually saw Jason Castello come off with a badly gashed leg. Tom Brindley was brought down in the box and dusted himself down before making it 3-0 from the spot at the death.
Wolverton grabbed a stoppage time consolation but Leys boss Paul Alleyne said he was happy with his side’s efforts after last week’s dismal draw against basement boys Willen FC.
He said: “I was impressed with what I saw it was 100% work rate from all of the squad and we took all three points on the day so we are now top of the division going into the Christmas break.
“From all at Hale Leys we would like to wish everyone a merry Christmas and a happy new year. Thank you for all your support in 2013.”
Hale Leys return in cup action in the new year. All info will be displayed on the player boards in the shopping centre.
