Aylesbury boss Tony Joyce called on his side to cement their top half position in the Calor Southern League Division One ahead of last night’s (Tuesday) trip to St Ives and they did exactly that with a thrilling 4-2 victory.
The Ducks had already had two goals disallowed before long serving forward Paul Edgeworth scored his first of a brace to break the deadlock after 36 minutes.
St Ives had moments, though, and deservedly equalised just before the break. But it took just four second half minutes for United to wrest control of the match when Zack Reynolds scored a goal his superb display merited.
Joyce’s midtable side boast a hugely impressive away record on their return to this level of the football pyramid and when the Ducks get going they have goals in them.
That was evident again as they went further in front through top scorer Stacey Field who made it 3-1. Town made for a nervy finish when they pulled a goal back almost straight away to make things interesting.
United were always in control, though, Edgeworth’s second coming 19 minutes from time to seal the club’s first three points of 2014 and maintain an unbeaten start to the new year.
The Ducks are on the road again this Saturday when they travel to Daventry Town.
