THAME United’s cup dream continues as they beat Newport Pagnell 4-2 on penalties in their FA Cup replay on Tuesday.

The first FA Cup action at the new ASM Stadium ended in glorious circumstances for the home side as they held their opponents to a 1-1 draw and then won the following penalty shoot out.

As in the encounter the previous week Thame took a first half lead when Aaron Rogers scored after 43 minutes.

Dean Buss levelled for Newport Pagnell ten minutes from time, but the reprieve proved temporary as the home side ran out 4-2 victors in the subsequent shootout.

The win sees Thame through to the first Qualifying Round.

The match saw two red cards, one for each side, a missed penalty and a dramatic shootout with Thame keeper Nick Bennion pulling off a stunning save from Newport’s first penalty and Alex McDonald securing the victory with Thame’s fourth spot kick.

United now face Southern League Premier side Brackley Town on September 17 at the ASM.
