Thame bounce back from late heartbreak

Thame United recovered from Saturday’s last-gasp defeat to beat Longlevens AFC 4-0 on Tuesday evening.

Second-half goals from Ben Connelly, Andy Gledhill, Ellis Hercules and an own goal gave United a comfortable victory that keeps them sixth in the Hellenic Premier Division.

Back on Saturday, a 94th minute strike from Rob Gerrard gave league leaders Thatcham Town a 3-2 win on Saturday and denied Thame a well-deserved point

In a disjointed first half, Ken Feyi fired a shot into the bottom corner to give Thame a 1-0 lead at half-time.

If an onslaught was anticipated at the start of the second half, it did not materialise as the greater attacking threat coming from United, with Feyi forcing a fine save from Rackley on 52 minutes when through on goal.

Thatcham got themselves on level terms when a long ball released Bennett who slotted the ball beyond Clarke.

United nearly got themselves back in front when Ellis Hercules just failed to connect with a Dan West free kick, before the home side took the lead.

A corner from the right was headed in by Bennett on the edge of the six yard box.

United continued to press and equalised on 73 minutes when West floated another free kick into the box and this time Feyi met the ball with a deft header that beat the keeper.

With gaps opening at both ends Feyi had a couple of chances to give United the lead, first forcing Rackley into a save low to his right, before the keeper blocked a goalbound shot with five minutes to go.

However, deep into stoppage time, Thatcham won a corner where Gerrard was able to finish from close range.
