As the old adage goes, it really is ‘squeaky bum time’ for Aylesbury United this weekend.
That’s because the Ducks’ main rivals for second place and possible promotion, Oxhey Jets, won one of their two games in hand on Tuesday night to go within three points of United.
And the Jets were due to play their last game in hand against Haringey on Thursday night, which if they win will put them above the Ducks by virtue of their superior goal difference.
That will set up a tantalising final day to decide who will finish second and clinch possible promotion from the Spartan South Midalnds Premier as United travel to Hertford and Jets take on Hadley.
Speaking ahead of the final week, Ducks boss Tony Joyce said: “Hopefully they will drop some points midweek.
“If they win both their games they will be level on points heading into the final game of the season.”
