PREMIER League managers have given Aylesbury’s Championship football star Matty Phillips a morale boosting vote of confidence.
The Blackpool winger was voted second in a list of players who could make the step up to the elite league.
The country’s top bosses voted Southampton’s Ricky Lambert as number one but Phillips was second in the pecking order.
That could be ominous for Blackpool as the transfer window swings open in two week’s time.
While Tangerines boss Ian Holloway has insisted the club will keep Phillips, West Ham, Everton and West Brom have all been credited with a strong interest in his services.
The Scotland international was at Aylesbury’s newest gym, DW Gym Group, as the special guest when it was officially opened at Junction Retail Park last weekend.
It is Aylesbury’s newest and biggest gym and employs 25 staff.
General manager Dan Penn said: “ We opened with over 1,000 members on the books, so it has been very well received by the general public.”
Ironically, Phillips is the cousin of another Aylesbury footballer, defender Emmerson Boyce, who plays for DW Gym owner Dave Whelan, who is chairman of Premier League side Wigan.
