THAME United drew 1-1 at home thanks to a late goal from comeback king Adam Rhodes.
An early free-kick from Wantage was parried to the feet of a visiting striker who poked home to put Wantage into a lead which lasted until half-time.
After the break, Thame pushed on but it looked as though they would fail to find the equaliser they deserved. With 15 minutes to play, Mark West brought on Rhodes and Josh Green.
It was a sublime substitution as in the 86th minute after a goalmouth scramble Adam Rhodes poked the ball home to the relief of most of the crowd.
Thame manager Mark West said: “It was nice for Adam Rhodes to get the winning goal. He has been injured for a long time. It was a close game but I feel we could have edged it. We conceded against the run of play and went into the break 1-0 down.
“Fortunately we managed to get one back but couldn’t push on.
“The next two games are important. Shrivenham on Saturday away and Abingdon at home on Tuesday are both teams that are around us in the league.”
