Forget the rivalries between Manchester United and Man City or the Merseyside derby because what promises to be one of the most exciting football seasons Aylesbury has seen in years kicks off today (Saturday).
After promotion from the Spartan Premier, Aylesbury United will play in the Calor Southern League where they will face bitter rivals Aylesbury FC at least twice – and for the first time ever in a competitive game.
While those dates (Monday August 26 at United and Boxing Day at FC) will be etched into the minds of fans of both clubs, there will be plenty to play for throughout the season as both clubs battle for supremacy and for the title of the town’s top side.
The festivities get under way on Saturday, though, with FC away at AFC Hayes and United at home to last season’s losing play-off finalists Rugby.
FC entertain Daventry and the Ducks travel to Chlafont St Peter on Tuesday night but the big one is the fourth game of the season when the rivals clash for the first time ever on Bank Holiday Monday.
