AYLESBURY United cruised to a 5-0 pre-season friendly over Stony Startford while Aylesbury FC and Thame United cancelled eachother out at the ASM in a 0-0 draw on Tuesday night.

Ben Baines hit a second half hat-trick as Tony Joyce’s men overpowered their Division One hosts. United were largely on top in the first half without being able to break the deadlock, the closest they came being a thunderbolt from Tom Barnett which crashed against the upright.

The second period was a different story, however, as three goals in the first five minutes set the Ducks on their way.

Firstly, skipper John Mulholland headed in Hateley Mercer’s corner. Within two minutes Ben Baines received a pass from Barnett and finished well past the home keeper.

Aylesbury’s number 9 was at it again in under two minutes once more as he produced an even better finish this time, Stacey Field setting him up.

Matt Timberlake made a fine penalty save to keep United’s three-goal lead in tact, before Baines completed his well deserved hat-trick by finishing smartly after a Mercer throw-in had been flicked on.

The rout was completed by Stacey Field with little under 15 minutes remaining, as Baines turned provider this time by slotting him through.

Elsewhere, Mark Eaton’s Aylesbury FC could find no way past Mark West’s Thame United at the ASM Stadium.

Thame will be boosted by the result as they go into Saturday’s friendly against Aylesbury’s oldest club, United, again at the ASM.
