Aylesbury United got their season off to a flying start with a 4-0 FA Cup win over Enfield 1893 on Saturday.

United were out of sight with three goals in the first half an hour from Paul Edgeworth, Stacey Field and Ian Cooper.

Substitute Greg Williams crowned his return to the club from Aylesbury FC with an outrageous long shot into the top corner as Ducks continued their fine goalscoring form.

Elsewhere, Aylesbury FC boss Craig Faulconbridge led by example when headed home a late equaliser in the club’s final pre-season friendly against Didcot.

Didcot took the lead five minutes before half-time, with forward Lamar Simpson in goal after FC Simeon Charles was taken off due to injury.

The equaliser came on 83 minutes when Brian Haule picked out Faulconbridge six yards out and he finished with his head. FC entertain Guildford City on Saturday at The Affinity Investments Stadium for the opening game of the league season.

Ten miles away in Thame at the ASM Stadium, Thame United were also in FA Cup action against Newbury.

The home team controlled the first half, having more ball possession and creating more chances. The goal came in the 18th minute when United were awarded a free-kick on the left.

Dan West’s set play was blocked and he then hit a well-placed high ball into the box which eventually fell to Ellis Hercules who struck a shot past the keeper from 10 yards in what was the only goal of the game.

United travel to North Leigh in the next round on Saturday August 25.
