THAME United’s unbeaten start to the year came to an abrupt end this week as they lost 4-2 away to Oxford City Nomads in midweek having drawn 1-1 with Ascot at the weekend.

On Wednesday, the visitors opened the scoring after half an hour through Luke Ricketts, although the lead only lasted three minutes.

In the second half, Nomads scored two quick goals before Alex Stewart netted a penalty with 10 minutes to go.

For the first time in the game, the Nomads defence started to panic but with United chasing an equaliser the Nomads broke away to score with the last kick of the match.

At the weekend, Thame’s Mitchell Meredith struck late to take a share of the spoils at Ascot.

It was no less than they deserved having dominated their hosts for the majority of the match.

United opened brightly and forced the home side on to the back foot from the outset but while they enjoyed the majority of possession, Thame struggled to make the final ball count.

In the 83rd minute a mix-up in the Thame defence allowed a striker to score before Meredith’s strike levelled the game late-on.

Thame face Henley at home on Saturday.
