Chinnor Youth Under 13s overcame a spirited Thame side 2-1 on Sunday to progress to the third round of the League Cup.
After a spell of early pressure, Chinnor captain William Threlfall opened the scoring, latching on to a loose ball in the Thame penalty area and slotting home past the keeper. Thame withstood prolonged pressure from the Chinnor attack and just before half time equalised after an uncharacteristic mix-up in the Chinnor defence.
The second half was a more even affair with few chances being created. However, mid way through the half, the Chinnor manager opted for a more attacking approach and sent midfielder Sam Coombes up front. It was a tactical shift that paid off almost immediately with Coombes running on to an excellent through ball from Jamie Gooden to slip the ball past the keeper. The Chinnor defence managed to keep Thame at bay for the remaining minutes to secure the win over their local rivals.
