Villagers in Haddenham are following the footsteps of those in nearby Thame by setting up a group to get defibrillators installed in the village.

Heartbeat Haddenham, to be overseen by the parish council, hopes to replicate the success of Staying Alive Thame which installed nine defibrillators across the town.

Heartbeat Haddenham will be officially launched at a meeting at the Scout & Guide Centre in Banks Park at 7.30pm on Thursday, March 19, and the group hopes to raise £5,000 to buy the life-saving equipment, which delivers an electric shock to the heart to get it beating again.

The Haddenham Beer Festivals Trust funded the one existing defibrillator at Stonehill House, and organisers of the village fete have already agreed to buy another.

Richard Kendall, of Heartbeat Haddenham, said: “We aim to raise funds to provide defibrillators at locations in Haddenham where the daily footfall is greatest. “The most obvious locations are the station and the village centre.”
