A Simon & Garfunkel tribute act is performing its first show of a new tour in Thame.

Pete Richards and Dan Haynes, both 28, are gigging at more than 30 venues nationwide between now and June but will begin at Thame Players Theatre on January 19.

The pair have been performing their unique act of music and multimedia, as part of Bookends theatre company, for two years.

Pete said: “We don’t dress up, it’s all about the quality of the music.

“We tell the story of Simon & Garfunkel with video clips, songs, but also with our own experiences as fans.

“My parents were big fans, especially my dad, so I grew up with the music.

“Dan not so much, he was into his punk, but when I played him some of the stuff, he fell in love with it.”

Pete and Dan saw the American double-act perform hits such as Bridge Over Troubled Water and Mrs. Robinson, live in New York in 2003 before deciding to give it a go themselves.

“It’s been better than we could have thought,” said Pete, who met Dan at school in the West Midlands.

BBC Radio Nottingham said if you close your eyes while watching the tribute duo, you could ‘really believe that was Simon & Garfunkel’.

Tickets for the show, which lasts for one and a half hours, can be bought from Thame Players box office on 01844 217228.
