A former Thame schoolgirl is aiming for national honours after being awarded a regional beauty pageant prize.

Lauri Knowler, 19, grew up in Worminghall and attended St Joseph’s Primary School and later Lord Williams School in Thame.

Last month, after entering the beauty pageant competition she was given the title of Miss South East Swindon.

And in November Lauri, who is studying politics and international relations at De Montfort University in Leicester is competing in the Miss Great Britain Final.

She said: “When I first got involved in beauty pageants I thought it was all about fake tan, hair extensions and fake eyelashes.

“It is not only about looks, it is about confidence, personality and being able to carry yourself.

“Before you go on stage, you have a one to one chat with the judges when you talk about yourself and you get asked questions about current affairs.

“After getting the title of Miss South East Swindon I will be attending public events in that role, which could include Thame Fair.”
