Unbeaten in six chess matches, Thame girl Chantelle Foster ended the top scorer and received the ‘Best Player’ prize when she represented England recently.

The Aylesbury High School girl’s matches helped England beat fierce opposition from Scotland, Wales and the Republic of Ireland at the Four Nations Chess tournament in Northamptonshire over the weekend. The competition has taken place since 1949 and consists of four separate competitions covering various ages of both boys and girls.

Chantelle is the U15 girls’ Ultima, having won the national Southern Gigafinal, the third stage of the UK Schools Chess Challenge on July 15th.

Her brother James, a former Aylesbury Grammar School pupil, is the U18 Ultimo, also having won regionally. The duo are now through to the final Terafinal, but instead will take part in The Euro Youth Championships in Prague next month.
