Plans for a 553-space temporary car park at Stoke Mandeville Hospital have been scrapped.

Bucks Healthcare NHS Trust wanted to use land next to the hospital for the temporary facility while a new 400-space multi-storey car park is built.

However, the trust says it has now decided to retain 110 spaces on site through the construction period and is trying to secure the use of another 110 from Wheelpower, which is based at Stoke Mandeville Stadium.

The trust says this would equal the number of spaces currently available.

Work is due to start on the multi-storey car park in February and is expected to be complete in October.

The project was originally due to get underway three months ago, but has been hampered by delays in the tender process.

Extra car parking has long been called for at the hospital, with staff often having to park in residential areas around the site, leading to clashes with residents and police involvement.
