At the moment they’re full of tools and workmen, but in three months’ time the new Topshop unit in Friars Square will be dominated by clothes and shoppers.
As our photos show, work on the central pavillion area in the shopping centre is nearing completion.
Shoppers can look forward to a bumper collection of new retailers with Topshop at the helm in addition to six other stores.
Centre manager Andy Margieson said: “Everything is on time, our part of the building work will be finished by July 5 and by the end of September Topshop should be open.
“And the smaller units should be open earlier than that because their shop fits are not so big.
“It’s a long awaited redevelopment, we are very excited.
“It seems to have taken ages when really the work only started in January. It’s a fantastic way to push along the year from when H&M opened in Janaury. This is the next step. Hopefully it will bring the beginning of a pre-Christmas shopping surge.”
Mr Margieson said the toilets situated near BHS are also being renovated, and shoppers seemed to be excited about all the positive changes.
He said: “There is lots of stuff happening and I think people realise it’s for the greater good. We are always available for a chat and like to talk to the shoppers.
“Things are happening in a good way, things are looking rosy. It really is quite unique in the current climate for something like this to be happening in a town centre.”
