TWO sisters who grew up in Thame were joined by friends and family for a weekend of celebration after marking a number of milestones recently.

Freda and Mary Josey who spent their childhood and teenage years at Highclere, Thame Park Road in Thame, were together again for the celebration of Mary and her husband Brian’s golden wedding party on Saturday.

The next morning the party guests were joined by friends of Freda and George Dorrell at their home in Haddenham for a surprise presentation.

And the surprise for Freda was from the Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research Fund in recognition of her 47 years of fundraising.

She has volunteered and raised money for the charity ever since the sisters’ mother died from Chronic Myeloid Leuhaemia in 1964.

The presentation was made by Annette How, the area fundraiser.

In her speech she said: “With the advances in treatment made possible in the last 40 years, it meant there was a very good chance she could have survived.”

Freda has raised money by opening her garden each summer, organising trips to the theatre and arranging dolls house exhibitions and concerts in the church.
