Volunteers from the Helen & Douglas House shop in Thame were invited to spend a day at the children’s and young adult’s hospice in East Oxford recently.

The group got to meet its founder, Sister Frances, and share in a delicious lunch to celebrate the charity’s 30th anniversary on Friday September 21.

Sister Frances spoke to all the hospice shop volunteers after lunch and after a warm welcome, the volunteers were shown around Helen House and the beautiful hospice grounds, experiencing the amazing work that Helen & Douglas House offers to families and guests and see the difference they make by giving their time to volunteer in their local shop and raise valuable funds for the hospice.

Yvonne Davidson, volunteer development co-coordinator at Helen & Douglas House, said: “Our Volunteer Lunch was a great opportunity to invite all of our volunteers to visit Helen House.

“For many of our retail volunteers it was the first time they had met Sister Frances or been to Helen and Douglas House, so they were able to see first-hand how the money raised in our shops is used. It was a fantastic day.”
