Nothing was going to stop Whitchurch School having its Christmas lunch after the never-say-die spirit of one parent paid off.
Its pupils were faced by the prospect of missing out on their festive meal after the firm which was supplying the food closed down.
Unable to recoup the money that had already been spent, parent Joanna Wood refused to be beaten and was rewarded when Tesco’s community champion Helen Waddon and Andy Judge at the Old Thatched Inn agreed to come to the rescue.
Mrs Wood said: “I thought it would just be nice for the kids to still have a Christmas lunch.
“It was really, really good.
“It went a lot better than I expected.
“Even before they arrived the children were so excited about the lunch. Everyone was really excited. It was a really good example of Christmas spirit.”
