Santa will once again be visiting streets across Aylesbury in December, as part of an annual tradition dating back 20 years.

Father Christmas and his helpers wander through the town with a decorated float, playing festive music and receiving donations from householders.

It is organised by the Rotary Club of Aylesbury and raises roughly £10,000 for charity each December.

Co-organiser Dr Sarah Fraser said each year the float is greeted by excited children waving from their windows and most householders are ‘generous and responsive’.

She said: “There are people now collecting who remember the float coming past their house when they were five or six.

“Every year the carol float travels around 100 miles across Aylesbury suburbs and villages.

“The activity is staffed entirely by volunteers from the Aylesbury community.

“Each year around 250-300 people-hours are spent collecting. The float tries to take slightly different routes each December so other people can enjoy it.

“Safety of both volunteers and the public is important so the float will always travel a flexible route that changes on the night and will be cut short if the weather is bad.”
