A £2 million upgrade of Aylesbury’s biggest school is due to start in the summer.

Plans to refurbish the Grange School have been submitted to Aylesbury Vale District Council.

It includes a new multigym, music block, main entrance, two storey extension with new lifts and staircase, canopies over classroom entrances and shelter over the playground.

Headteacher Vince Murray said work on the multi-gym would be the first stage of the project.

“It will allow us to get additional capacity in the school to relocate other classes while refurbishments take place.”

He said the plan was in conjunction with Bucks County Council.

It helped curbed the disappointment of the government’s schools investment scheme being dropped, he added.

“It’s great. The local authority has seen a need and we have been able to get some money.”

The music block should be completed by summer 2013, with all work needing to be finished by December 2013.
