Pensioner picks up an award for helping elderly

A PENSIONER from Steeple Claydon has been named Aylesbury Vale District Council’s Volunteer of the Year.

Nicolette Pike, 85, has been a tireless supporter of Age Concern Buckinghamshire for nearly 20 years and helps out at a rural day centre in her village six hours a week.

She supports Christian Aid and is verger at St Michael’s Church in Steeple Claydon.

Mrs Pike also supports many frail older people in the village by taking them to appointments and helping them do shopping, cleaning and gardening.

Phyl Saw of Haddenham was named runner-up.
