A host of stars is promised for this year’s Waterside pantomime, Cinderella. With the cast announcement due next week the producer and chief executive of First Family Entertainment spoke exclusively to the Herald.

Kevin Wood said: “I’m really thrilled, it’s going to be a really excellent show with a very strong cast. There will be a host of stars, male and female.”

He confirmed the signing is not a pop group.

The pantomime will see a return to the story of Cinderella, first performed at the Waterside as the opening pantomime in 2010 with Cilla Black cast as the Fairy Godmother.

Mr Wood said: “Four to five years is the normal cycle for pantomime subjects to be rotated. Cinderella is one of the most popular along with Snow White.”

He said Snow White is performed with real dwarves, and as a consequence it is an extremely expensive production and therefore tends to be presented in larger venues.

He could not confirm whether popular local entertainer Andy Collins would again have a partin the pantomime, b ut all will be revealed next week.

Previous stars at the Waterside pantomime have been Jonathan Wilkes starring as Dick Whittington in 2011, Russell Grant playing the part of Roger the cabin boy in Peter Pan in 2012, and last year saw former EastEnders actress Anita Dobson as Carabosse the wicked fairy in Sleeping Beauty.

Ms Dobson was announced in May last year, but previous pantomime stars have been announced in June.

Alongside the human stars, two white Shetland ponies will have an important part to play, taking Cinders’ to the ball in a crystal carriage.
