Olympic swimmer and British record holder Simon Burnett has spent time holding a swimming master class for charity in Thame.

The Thame Swimming Club patron was joined by his wife, US swimmer Whitney Myers-Burnett, to give a talk and a two-hour pool session on competitive swimming.

The event raised £750 for Oxford-based Urology Cancer Charity UCARE.

Ex-Team GB athlete Mr Burnett, who used to live near Thame, still holds the British record for the 100m freestyle.

The couple answered questions from the swimmers at Thame’s Leisure Centre and in the pool swimmers practised training drills for all the strokes, trying different things to see what made a difference to their speed.

After the session the swimmers had the chance to race against the pair.

Thame Swimming Club chairman Ian Goetz described the event as a great success.

Anyone aged up to 18 can apply to join Thame Swimming Club.
